چکیده

A new modeling approach is proposed for predicting the bulk electromechanical properties of piezoelectric composites. The proposed model offers the same level of convenience as the wellknown Mori-Tanaka method. The electromechanical properties of four piezoelectric polymer composite materials are predicted with the proposed, Mori-Tanaka, Self-consistent methods, and detailed finite element analyses are conducted over full ranges of reinforcement volume fractions. The presented data offer a comprehensive comparison of the four modeling approaches for a wide range of matrix and reinforcement electromechanical properties, reinforcement geometry, and reinforcement volume fraction. By comparison with the finite element data, it is shown that the proposed model predicts properties that are, in some cases, more accurate than the Mori-Tanaka and Self-consistent schemes.

Predicting Young’s Modulus of Aggregated Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Polymer

Prediction of mechanical properties of carbon nanotube-based composite is one of the important issues which should be addressed reasonably. A proper modeling approach is a multi-scale technique starting from nano scale and lasting to macro scale passing in-between scales of micro and meso. The main goal of this research is to develop a multi-scale modeling approach to extract mechanical propert...

Constitutive Modeling of Nanotube-Reinforced Polymer Composite Systems

In this study, a technique has been proposed for developing constitutive models for polymer composite systems reinforced with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT). Since the polymer molecules are on the same size scale as the nanotubes, the interaction at the polymer/nanotube interface is highly dependent on the local molecular structure and bonding. At these small length scales, the lattice s...

Modeling of progressive damage in aligned and randomly oriented discontinuous fiber polymer matrix composites

Damage constitutive models based on micromechanical formulation and a combination of micromechanical and macromechanical damage criterions are presented to predict progressive damage in aligned and random fiber-reinforced composites. Progressive interfacial fiber debonding models are considered in accordance with a statistical function to describe the varying probability of fiber debonding. Bas...

Finite element modeling of polymer matrix nano-composites reinforced by nano-cylindrical fillers

A new three-dimensional unit cell model has been developed for modeling three constituent phases including inclusion, interphase and matrix. The total elastic modulus of nano-composite is evaluated.  Numerical results are in good agreement with the previous proposed theoretical modeling. Higher matrix and inclusion elastic modulus both can dramatically influence the total elastic modulus.
